Paula began dancing at the age of three, starting with ballet, tap, hula and gymnastics. She continued training in the classical dances of ballet, modern and jazz dance, as well as Bellydance, West African, Pilates, yoga and theater. She continued her study of dance through college, graduating with a major in Human Development and minors in Dance/Theater and Cognitive Neuroscience.
Paula's first experience with Salsa and Afro-Haitian dance came when she traveled to Cuba with her family in 1995 where she fell in love with the Cuban dance, music and culture. At age 18 she lived and studied abroad in Argentina for a year, learning Tango and starting a Bellydance troupe for a group of local women.
In 2009 she joined the Salsa Con Todo dance company in Seattle, WA where she performed and taught group, private and team classes in Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha and Bellydance. During her time in Seattle, Paula worked as the Nursing Director for a surgery center and had her own massage practice where she specialized in injury prevention and rehabilitation and massage for athletes (including dancers), in addition to teaching dance.
In May of 2017, Paula moved from Seattle to Eugene. She enjoys combining her knowledge of anatomy, physiology, music theory, and classical solo and partner dance technique in her classes and is excited to be dancing and teaching with the Salseros Dance Company and joining the Eugene salsa scene!
